IRS Important Updates: Who’s Getting Their Tax Refunds This Week

Find out if your tax refund is arriving this week, or if you have to wait a little bit longer

Where's my tax refund?

Where's my tax refund?

Every year, millions of American taxpayers, all over the United States (and also those living abroad) wait for their tax refunds after filing their returns. In April 2025, many are wondering who will receive their tax refunds during the week of April 22-27 and how long it will take for the IRS to process them.

While the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) does not publish an “exact” calendar detailing who receives tax refund deposits on specific dates, as processing depends on many factors, rough (and purely informative) calculations can be made to know, more or less, when the long-awaited deposits or paper checks would be arriving.

When does my tax refund arrive?

We can consider the typical processing times and projected deadlines for the 2025 tax season: with this basis, it is possible to estimate when taxpayers will receive their refunds.

Returns filed digitally with direct deposit are typically processed in up to 21 days, as long as there are no errors or inconsistencies. Those submitted in paper, on the other hand, can take four weeks or more due to additional manual review steps.

For those who filed their returns electronically between March 3 and April 6, 2025, and opted for direct deposit, refunds will likely be issued between April 22 and April 27.

This range considers possible minor delays. For example, a return accepted on March 3 could receive funds around March 24, but if there are delays, the date would be extended to April 22.

Similarly, a submission accepted on April 6 would have your refund ready around April 27. Those who submitted their documents after April 6 will likely receive their funds after that latest date.

Does the IRS send tax refunds on the weekend?

The IRS only processes refunds Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays. During the week of April 22 to 27, 2025, the business days will be Tuesday the 22nd, Wednesday the 23rd, Thursday the 24th and Friday the 25th.

If a refund is issued on Friday the 25th, it could be reflected in the bank account over the weekend, depending on the financial institution. It should be noted that there are no holidays in this period, which reduces the possibility of interruptions.

Several factors influence the receipt of funds. Direct deposit is still the fastest option, while physical checks may take an additional week plus mailing time. Additionally, although credits like the EITC or ACTC used to delay payments until after February 15, this would not affect April refunds.

Finally, errors in the declaration, incomplete information or reviews for possible identity theft can prolong the process for up to several months. In these cases, the IRS usually notifies the taxpayer to request additional documentation.
