July 1st Brings the Next SSI Payment for Those That Didin’t Get a Deposit in June

Due to a peculiarity of the SSA calendar, Income Supplement Insurance (SSI) beneficiaries did not receive a payment during the month of June.

Planning Ahead? Your Next SSI Payment Arrives July 1st

The Social Security Administration (SSA) payment schedule can occasionally result in months without some payments, due to weekends and holidays being non-payment days for the agency. But don’t worry because this doesn’t mean you’re not receiving a total of 12 payments per year; that number is always guaranteed.

However, this rule of not paying on holidays and weekends sometimes causes the dates to shift forward to the nearest business days. Such is the case for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries who receive payment promptly on the 1st of each month, except in those months when this anomaly occurs.

On June 1, 2024, which was a Saturday, SSI benefits were deposited a day earlier, on May 31. This resulted in this category of beneficiaries receiving two checks that month, while they received none in June.

July 2024 Comes With a New SSI Payment of up to $1,415

Despite the skipped payment in June, beneficiaries can be assured that their July check is on the way. The payment for that month will be issued on the first business day of the month, returning to its regular schedule: July 1 is a Monday, so everything will be normal this time.

In this way, qualifying beneficiaries can receive up to $943 per month if they are an individual beneficiary, and up to $1,415 per month if they are a qualifying couple.

Who Qualifies for Supplemental Security Income (SSI)?

The SSI program prioritizes those most in need, so any income you receive from other sources such as wages, pensions, or even social security benefits will be taken into account when determining SSI benefits if you meet the rest of the requirements. The SSA deducts a portion (currently $1 for every $2) of your “countable income” from your potential SSI benefit.

Your resources will also be considered, including assets like bank accounts, investments, and real estate: your primary residence and a reasonable amount of land are excluded from this category. Keep in mind that the SSA has resource limits that cannot be exceeded, and if the total value of your resources exceeds that limit, it may affect or reduce the amount for which you qualify, or even render you ineligible altogether.

SSI can also pay for essential person services, which are those that provide essential care to individuals with mobility issues who need assistance with tasks like cooking or bathing. This additional amount, called “essential person increment,” is currently $472 per month in 2024.

New SSI payments on the way: July 1st is your next date.
