Three new rounds of payments for SSDI recipients are coming in just a few days. If you are a beneficiary of this Social Security program, be prepared to have new funds available to be able to meet your living expenses.
Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is a federal monthly benefit program for people with disabilities. People with disabilities who have previously qualified and met Social Security disability requirements qualify. The direct payment of SSDI is designed to provide benefits to people who are blind or have severe vision problems, as well as people whose disability prevents them from working in a lucrative activity.
To qualify and receive SSDI, you must have a severe disabling medical condition and be expected to last at least one year or result in death. This means that you cannot have a substantial and lucrative job (SGA) and you cannot earn more than $1,310 per month in 2024, or $2,080 if you are blind.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) has a file known as a Blue Book that lists the medical conditions that are considered disabling and by which the SSDI program and others are governed. This list is not exhaustive or necessarily exclusive, and the SSA may consider other conditions that do not appear on the list, if the criteria of severity and duration are met.
Qualifying for SSDI: Enough Social Security Credits
Another prerequisite to qualify for SSDI is to have worked and paid Social Security taxes for a certain period of time. The amount of credits you need depends on your age at the time of suffering the disability.
Generally, it is necessary to have 40 Social Security credits in the last 10 years before you can apply to receive this monthly financial aid. You can apply online through the SSA website: https://www.ssa.gov/

Upcoming SSDI Payment Dates
The June 2024 SSDI payment dates follow a strict SSA schedule that also applies to other benefits such as retirement or Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Three important dates are coming up in the next few days for beneficiaries with disabilities:
- Wednesday, June 12, 2024: Beneficiaries born between the 1st and the 10th of any month.
- Tuesday, June 18, 2024: Beneficiaries born between the 11th and the 20th of any month.
- Wednesday, June 26, 2024: Beneficiaries born between the 21st and the 31st of any month.
A Small Change in the SSA’s Schedule This Month
Payments are usually made on the second, third, and fourth Wednesday of each month, but you will notice that Tuesday the 18th is the date chosen for the second group of beneficiaries (grouped according to their birthday) instead of Wednesday the 19th.
This is because the SSA does not pay benefits on holidays, and that day is the Emancipation Day, or Juneteenth, the date on which the abolition of slavery is commemorated throughout the United States.
Remember that if you do not receive the benefits by the stipulated dates, you can wait three business days before contacting the SSA. By calling 1-800-772-1213, you can make inquiries about payment dates and possible arrears, but you can also make other formalities and inquiries.
