Can you imagine receiving a bigger check at the end of February? Well, that is exactly what could happen in 2025 for Social Security beneficiaries in the United States, including those who live in all the 50 US states, no matter where you reside.
It turns out that the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) is ready to give monthly payments a boost, adjusting them for inflation. And yes, this applies to everyone, but today we are going to focus on the details that interest Floridians, especially those in group 4 of retirees. What does that mean? Keep reading, I’ll tell you everything.
Social Security checks are getting a boost
For those in group 4, the key date is February 26, 2025. That day, if everything goes as planned, they will receive their monthly Social Security payment. This group is special because they are the last to get paid each month, but don’t worry, it’s not because they have been forgotten. Simply put, the system is designed to make sure that everyone, without exception, gets their money.
If you have a birthday between the 21st and 31st of any month and you started receiving your benefits after May 1997, congratulations, you are part of group 4. And this schedule is the same throughout the country.
Now, let’s talk about the increase. Where does that extra come from? Well, COLA, which is nothing more than an adjustment so that profits do not fall behind the rise in prices. This means that whether you receive Social Security due to retirement, disability or another reason, the increase is designed so that you do not fall short when it comes to covering your expenses. And no, it is not just for those in Florida, it is for all beneficiaries in the United States. So if you have family or friends in other states, tell them, because this affects them too.
SSI benefits are getting a payment one day earlier
But wait, this doesn’t end here. It turns out that, in addition to the regular payment, some lucky people could receive an extra check before February ends. How much are we talking about? Up to $967. Sounds good, right? But be careful, not everyone qualifies for this additional payment. To be eligible, you must meet certain requirements, such as receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI). A couple could be entitled to up to $1,450.
This extra payment is scheduled for February 28, 2025, and is basically a calendar gift. Normally, SSI checks are paid on the first day of each month, but if that day falls on a weekend, payment is advanced to the last business day of the previous month. So, in this case, since March 1, 2025 falls on a Saturday, the payment will be made on February 28.
Who can receive this extra payment? Mainly, people over 65 years of age with low economic resources. This money is designed to help the most vulnerable, those who really need extra support to cover their basic needs. So if you meet these requirements, be sure to keep an eye on your bank account at the end of February.
