The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP benefits) continues to be essential support for more than 42 million low-income citizens in the United States. Dozens of organizations have the noble task of providing federal funds, provided by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), to prevent these households from falling into food risk.
The SNAP benefits program operates, of course, also in the state of Florida, where the Department of Children and Families (DCF) is the entity responsible for the administration of these benefits. Starting in January 2025, the program guarantees that eligible families receive their funds continuously for 12 months: payments have already begun and are extended until the 28th.

Florida distributes SNAP benefits on EBT cards
SNAP benefit funds are loaded onto an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card, which works similar to a debit card. These cards allow beneficiaries to make purchases of nutritious foods, such as proteins, cereals, fruits and vegetables, helping to maintain a more balanced diet.
Keep in mind that benefits are always restricted to fresh or non-perishable foods only, so it is prohibited to use them to buy hot or prepared foods, alcoholic beverages, tobacco or non-food products.
