Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) beneficiaries will receive payments of up to $4,018 this week. These payments are intended for individuals who meet certain requirements established by the Social Security Administration (SSA) and are intended for workers who have complied with their Social Security taxes for a minimum of years.
As of today, two SSDI payments have been sent: the first was on January 8 (second Wednesday of the month) for those beneficiaries who have birthdays between the 1st and 10th of any month. The second group is made up of those who have a birthday between the 11th and the 20th of any month and received their payment on January 15.
But, there is one more payment to make: it is for those whose birthday is after the 21st of the month, and the payment will be made this week on the fourth Wednesday, which is January 22.
Who qualifies for SSDI benefits in 2025?
The maximum SSDI payment for 2024 is $4,018. To qualify for this amount, applicants must meet several requirements. The applicant must have worked for 35 years, having a work history that includes 35 years of work.
Additionally, a person who wants to apply must submit the SSDI application before reaching full retirement age to avoid a reduction in the payment amount. All jobs in the applicant’s work history are also required to have been covered by Social Security. Finally, the applicant must have an income history that meets or exceeds the annual taxable maximum over the 35-year period.
The average Social Security benefits in every initiative
The average SSDI payment is $1,542 through October 2024, and is expected to increase to $1,580 after the cost of living adjustment (COLA) in 2025, which was 2.5%, but it is a number that could vary over the months. For those with lower incomes or shorter work history, payments may be lower than average. In these situations, beneficiaries may qualify to also receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
Regarding the amounts for benefits in 2024 and their projections for 2025, the SSDI (average) will be $1,542 in 2024 and $1,580 in 2025. The SSI (average) is expected to be $697 in 2024 and $714 in 2025, remaining the maximum amount for SSI at $967 in both years.
For those receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits, their next payment is on January 31, advanced from February 1 (that’s a Saturday). Other beneficiaries, such as those that claimed their benefits before May 1997, or that receive both Social Security and SSI benefits, their payment is February 3.
