The well-known “Tax Day” is a date of great importance, which generates many moods in millions of taxpayers throughout the country. Traditionally, tax Day falls on April 15 every year, although it may change for some holidays or special occasions. For many residents, this day is the final deadline to file income tax returns and to settle any balance owed to theIRS Archives (elmira.es).
It is a busy day for those who still have not filed their tax returns, are calculating deductions and completing forms, for many it is a very stressful day because they can be exposed to fines for filing late or inaccurate their returns; however, if they have already successfully filed their taxes fulfilling their tax obligations, you can rest easy.
“Tax Day” Has Been Postponed by the IRS in This County
However, even though Monday, April 15th is tax day all over the United States, San Diego County residents will still have time to file their federal, individual, and business tax returns. The court date was extended due to the severe storms and floods that occurred in January, which affected parts of California, including the state of San Diego.
Since the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) previously declared a disaster, this allows the IRS to postpone some tax filing and payment deadlines for taxpayers who live or have their businesses in the disaster area, including the San Diego area.
Having said so, what is the new deadline set? The IRS indicated that the tax day dates for the San Diego region will fall on June 17, which would be a relief for those who have not yet filed their tax returns.

This extension also applies to taxpayers that were impacted in the following way:
- 2023 Contributions to IRAs and health savings accounts for eligible taxpayers.
Quarterly payroll and excise tax returns are normally due on January 31 and April 30. - Returns for companies by year, calendar and S corporations are normally due on March 15th
Calendar year corporate and fiduciary returns and payments that are normally due on April 15th - Tax-exempt organization returns for the calendar year are normally due on May 15th
If you need an additional extension, for the filing of your taxes, beyond June 17, 2024, for the 2023 federal income tax return must be requested electronically, before April 15. To apply for the tax extension in San Diego County, residents or business owners must fill out Form 4868 (Application for Automatic Extension to File the U.S. Personal Income Tax Return).
