About the SNAP Benefits Program in the United States

The SNAP federal initiative provides essential support to low-income individuals, helping them access nutritious foods. This Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as the Food Stamp Program, offers nutritional aid to low-income seniors, individuals with disabilities living on fixed incomes, and other low-income individuals and families.

September SNAP Benefits Distribution

SNAP is a federal initiative overseen by every state, with their own local offices or agencies. These offices are tasked with determining eligibility based on federal guidelines. While the eligibility rules and benefit levels are primarily set at the federal level, states have some flexibility to tailor aspects of the program. To qualify, individuals must meet all eligibility requirements.

SNAP Benefit Amounts Before the 2025 COLA Increase

If eligible for the maximum amount, a household of five could receive up to $1,155. An individual might receive up to $291, with an average of approximately $202. A family of three could receive up to $766, while a married couple or a two-person household could receive monthly payments of up to $535. Remember that these funds are loaded onto your EBT card.

You can use this money at any participating farmer’s market, grocery store, or retailer. Confirm whether the place you shop accepts EBT cards and look for eligible items under SNAP, noting that there are restrictions and not all items are eligible as per USDA guidelines. These maximum amounts will remain unchanged until September 30, 2024. SNAP benefits will increase following the COLA adjustment starting October 1, 2024.
