In the state of Florida, the benefits of the program Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) are distributed between the first and twenty-eighth days of each month, based on the ninth and eighth digits of the case number assigned to beneficiaries. To determine the exact date benefits will be available, read the case number backwards and omit the tenth digit.
We still have three more days of SNAP benefit payments left in Florida before the end of August, and it is for the following beneficiaries:
- Case number 9th and 8th digit: 89-92 = benefits available August 26.
- Case number 9th and 8th digit: 93-95 = benefits available August 27.
- Case number 9th and 8th digit: 96-99 = benefits available August 28.
SNAP Benefits and SUNCAP Are Not the Same in Florida
Then the benefits for the month of September will begin to be distributed, which begin, as we said before, on the 1st.
There is a particularity in the state of Florida, and it is the separation between the SNAP program and the SUNCAP. The latter is a special allowance for older adults who are eligible for the Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
You can receive food assistance through the SUNCAP program without the need for any additional application, documentation or interview, simply by meeting the requirements.
If you are already receiving food assistance benefits through the Regular Food Assistance Program, you may be automatically transferred to the SUNCAP program when you become eligible to receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. If your food benefits decrease due to this transfer, you have the option of continuing to receive benefits through the regular program.
Currently, in Florida, more than 44,000 households are enrolled in the SUNCAP program. This program is designed for people who receive SSI, are at least 18 years old, are not employed, and prepare their meals independently.
Florida’s SUNCAP Program: Eligibility and Benefits Easily Explained
Benefits of the SUNCAP program include streamlining the application process, as the SSI interview is also considered valid for SUNCAP. There is no need to complete additional forms or submit additional copies of personal documents. Beneficiaries are only required to report changes in their status as required by the Social Security Administration (SSA) and must recertify their eligibility every three years during SSI renewal. Additionally, they will be provided with an EBT card to access food benefits.
To apply for the SUNCAP program, you can make an SSI application at a Social Security office in Florida, where your SUNCAP eligibility will be evaluated. Alternatively, you can apply for the Regular Food Assistance program, and if you already receive SSI, you will be automatically converted to SUNCAP. If you already receive SSI but have not been enrolled in SUNCAP, you can contact the SUNCAP Unit for assistance.

SNAP and SUNCAP payment dates in Florida
Since the number of SUNCAP beneficiaries is much smaller than that of SNAP, payments are made in the first three days of the month, following the same organizational logic with the case number (9th and 8th digits of the case number, in that order):
