If you are one of the most loyal buyers of Costco and its flagship brand, Kirkland Signature, this article will definitely interest you, because the company could pay you up to $55.90 if you bought a particular product, which has been the subject of criticism and, as we are going to tell you, a class action settlement.
In fact, a major settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit involving Costco’s Flushable Moist Wipes, known as Kirkland Signature Moist Flushable Wipes.
Controversy Over Kirkland Signature Moist Flushable Wipes
The lawsuit claims that these wipes are not as disposable as promised, and could potentially become contaminants, while Costco insists that its product works perfectly.
This agreement is only beneficial to those customers who purchased these wipes in New York State between July 1, 2011 and May 31, 2017.
Customers who bought the same wipes outside of New York State are not eligible, no matter which one of any other territories of the United States or in Costco stores in other countries (there are Costco stores in the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Spain, Iceland, France, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Australia).
What Does the Costco Class Action Settlement Say?
Each member of the class, meaning those customers who purchased the wipes and have a current Costco membership, or those without a membership who submit a valid claim, will receive $1.30 for each package of wipes purchased during the mentioned period. And it doesn’t matter if you paid a lot or a little for them, what matters is that you bought.
- Minimum: Each member will receive at least $7.50, no matter how many packages they purchased.
- Maximum: Each household can receive up to $55.90, which is the equivalent of 43 packages of wipes.
- One Claim per Home: Only one claim will be accepted per household, determined by residential address.

Are you Eligible? Here are the Class Action Deadlines
If you are not a current Costco member, you must submit your claim online by August 9, 2024 or mail it so it arrives before that date. You can also opt out of the settlement and maintain your right to sue Costco by submitting an opt-out request by August 9, 2024.
These are your options if you want to add you as a plaintiff
- File a claim: Don’t miss your payment! Claim online or by mail.
- Opt Out: If you prefer to continue with your own legal path.
- Objection to the Agreement: You can object to the settlement without affecting your ability to make a claim.
The Final Approval Hearing is This Month
On August 30, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. ET, a court hearing will be held to decide whether to approve the settlement. If all goes well, class attorneys will seek up to $3,000,000 in fees and expenses, plus a $10,000 payment to lead plaintiff Dr. D. Joseph Kurtz.
Should I Attend the Hearing?
You can attend if you want, but you’re not obligated to, you know, these kinds of things are done by very skilled lawyers, and they know how to do their job.
Dates may change, so stay tuned on the deal’s official website. All important documents, such as the motion for final approval and the compensation request, will be posted there after they are submitted.
