Even though we are already in 2025, there is financial aid that many people do not even know about and that could be a refreshment for your pocket. We are going to tell you what it is about, because this is not just for a few, but for millions of people in the United States.
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has more than one million dollars available for people who have not yet claimed American Rescue Plan benefits. If you didn’t receive the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit or didn’t file your taxes that year, you may qualify for a “special payment.” Even if you didn’t make a lot of money in 2021, you could be eligible.
How much money can you receive in stimulus checks?
You could receive up to $1,400 thanks to the American Rescue Plan. It is money that many passed up because they do not realize that this money really exists and is available to be claimed by working families. The point is that you should hurry to claim this money, because you have until April 15 to claim part of these funds.
To find out if you are eligible and how to claim your payment, visit the IRS website or consult with a tax professional.
Now, if you live in New York, this interests you. Governor Kathy Hochul included a stimulus for the middle class in her 2026 budget. What does that mean? That up to 8.6 million New Yorkers could receive checks of between $300 and $500.
These payments could start arriving later this year, so keep an eye out. This is part of a larger plan to combat inflation and has already returned $5.5 billion to taxpayers in the form of refunds and additional payments.
Stimulus checks in other states: Where will they be available in 2025?
There is also movement in Colorado. The Property Tax, Rent and Heat (PTC) Rebate Program is helping low-income residents with stimulus checks. If you filed before Tax Day 2024, you should have already received between $800 and $1,600.
But if you missed it, don’t get angry, because you still have time until December 31, 2025 to apply. These payments can reach a staggering $1,112 a year for those who earned less than $18,018 in 2023 for a single individual filing, or who earned up to $24,345 for a couple filing jointly.
And let’s not forget Sacramento. There, the Family First Economic Support Pilot Program (FFESP) is giving monthly checks of $725 to low-income Native American and African American families. This money is intended to cover basic expenses such as housing, childcare and food. It is not a one-time aid, but part of a larger effort to reduce poverty and economic inequalities.
Alert for fake stimulus checks ads
But be careful, don’t be fooled by fake stimulus check offers during this tax season. There are no new stimulus checks on the way for Americans. As millions of people begin to file their tax returns, scammers are on the prowl, sending fraudulent messages claiming you qualify for a $1,400 check.
The Better Business Bureau warns that these deceptive text messages are designed to steal your personal information. Tax expert Mark Steber clarified that there is no new $1,400 stimulus check on the horizon. However, the IRS reminds those who qualified for the 2021 check but did not claim it that they could receive a direct deposit or check if they file their return by April 15.
The IRS will only contact you about refund credits by mail, never by text message or email. If you receive a message claiming you’re eligible for a stimulus check, it’s likely a scam. As O’Rork warned, clicking on those links can take you to fake websites, download malware to your device, or worse yet, steal your personal information.
