New SSDI payment in December 2024

In December 2024, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) beneficiaries in the United States will receive their last payments before the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) takes effect, which will increase their monthly checks.

This adjustment, determined annually in October by the Social Security Administration (SSA), is based on indicators of inflation and economic conditions, and for fiscal year 2025, a 2.5% increase was announced on October 10, 2024.

Disability Benefits: Last Payments of December 2024

SSDI recipients should be aware of how the payment schedule works. Generally, payments are distributed based on the beneficiary’s birthdate, meaning that each month there are specific days when payments are sent.

The last pending payment for SSDI beneficiaries in 2024 will be on the 24th, ahead of its original date, which should be the 25th (it is a holiday, so the date is moved forward to the nearest business day). This payment is for those whose birthday falls between the 21st and 31st of any month.

Adjustments and calendars already confirmed by the SSA

As the new year approaches, the COLA adjustment will impact 2025 payments. The first distribution of the new adjustment will be made on January 8, 2025. From that date on, the maximum SSDI benefit will see an increase, which will mean more financial support for those who depend on these payments.

This year, the maximum benefit for those in the SSDI category will be $3,822 per month. However, amounts may vary depending on each individual’s work history and the amount they have contributed during their career. That will increase the maximum check to a value that will be around $3,917, which is an additional $95 compared to the 2024 maximum payment.

What about the SSDI benefits in January 2025
