If you are a current customer of the Cash App financial services app, or were one in the past, you could be eligible to receive a payment of up to $2,500 after the company Block, owner of Cash App, was sued for alleged irregular practices.
The class action lawsuit asks Cash App and its parent company for $15 million for failing to take adequate precautions to protect customer data from unscrupulous individuals who appropriated it and used it to commit illegal acts.
What the Cash App Class Action Lawsuit Says
According to the text of the lawsuit, the plaintiffs say that Block and Cash App were negligent when a former employee of the company Cash App Investing accessed account data without permission in 2022, and when an unauthorized user accessed certain accounts of Cash App in 2023, using recycled phone numbers that were linked to a large number of accounts.
Although Block and Cash App did not admit guilt, negligence or wrongdoing, they agreed to pay the plaintiffs $15 to settle the class action lawsuit.
Who Is Eligible to Claim $2,500 from Cash App
If you have been the victim of an unauthorized funds transfer or if someone accessed your Cash App account or personal information without your permission, you may be entitled to claim a payment of up to $2,500.
Below we explain the details of the agreement, how you can submit a claim form online or by mail, and what we know about the possible payment date. We also include tips for protecting your personal and financial information on Cash App in this article, as well as what is known about the recent nationwide data breach.
You are eligible to receive payment if you meet the following conditions:
- You are a current or former Cash App, or Cash App Investing, customer, and your personal data from one of the two applications, as well as your account, were violated or accessed without authorization by third parties.
- You have been a victim of unauthorized or fraudulent withdrawals or transfers of funds from or to your account.
- You failed to resolve an error in a Cash App account or any linked financial account.
Not all beneficiaries will receive the maximum of $2,500 per capita, but if you were a victim, you have a high chance that that money will be returned to you from Cash App. That amount could be awarded to you as compensation for loss out of pocket, and $25 per hour as reimbursement for lost time, with a maximum of 3 hours per claimant.
You can also file a claim for documented transaction losses. To claim a cash loss or transaction loss, you must provide third-party documentation.
