According to the class action lawsuit, Block and Cash App Investing demonstrated “negligence and breached other obligations to users” in 2022, when a former employee accessed account data without permission.

The lawsuit alleges that the company was negligent again the following year, when “an unauthorized user” gained access to certain Cash App accounts while using recycled phone numbers linked to those accounts.

The plaintiffs also accused Block and Cash App Investing of failing to use account protection measures following such incidents and to “adequately resolve customer complaints about unauthorized or fraudulent transactions.”

Block and Cash App Investing claimed no fault or wrongdoing in the lawsuit, but agreed to the $15 million settlement, according to the settlement website.

How to File a CashApp Data Breach Claim as Plaintiff

In terms of payment, this can vary depending on the severity of the individual’s case and how much the data breach has affected them, but those involved in the agreement are entitled to up to $2,500.

Claims must be submitted before November 18 of this year, and the final judicial hearing is scheduled for December 16, 2024, assuming that no complications or objections arise, payments will be made after this date. .

How Much Money Could You Receive From CashApp?

If you meet the above requirements, you will be able to make a claim for up to $2,500 “for out-of-pocket losses” experienced during the time period listed on the settlement website.

However, you will need to provide “third-party documentation” that links you to “a data security incident, unauthorized account event, or error resolution deficiency” with your Cash App or Cash App Investing account.”

You can also file a claim to be reimbursed for lost time (in this case, the limit is $25 per hour for three hours, for a total of $75) and documented transaction losses due to a “non-account authorized event”.

For the latter, you will need to submit at least one of three options: a copy of a notification of an unauthorized account event, a copy of a police report related to an unauthorized account event, or a document showing that your account was accessed without your permission.
