The Social Security Administration (SSA) organizes monthly benefit payments based on the beneficiaries’ date of birth, as well as the type of benefit they receive. For example, for regular beneficiaries of Social Security (retirement), and also for those who receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), the paydays are three throughout each month.
The first payment is for those born between the 1st and 10th of any month, and is sent to their bank accounts (or via traditional mail) on the second Wednesday of each month. The second payment is for beneficiaries who turn their birthday between the 11th and 20th of any month, and its date is the third Wednesday of each month. Finally, beneficiaries who have birthdays between the 21st and 31st of each month receive their bank deposits or paper checks on the fourth Wednesday.
Additionally, those who received Social Security benefits before May 1997, or who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI), typically receive their payments on the third day of each month, while SSI is paid on the first day of each month.
SSI Recipients Won’t Receive Payments on September 1, and Here’s Why
On September 1, 2024 there will be no Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment because it falls on a Sunday. In these situations, SSA issues the payment on the previous last business day, which in this case would be Friday, August 30, 2024. This ensures that beneficiaries are not affected by the weekend, allowing them to receive their funds on time.

That said, SSI recipients will see their next payments on Tuesday, October 1, and then Friday, November 1, but in that month they will also receive an advance payment corresponding to the December payment, because the 1st falls on a Saturday. Another advance payment will take place on December 31 because January 1 is a holiday.

SSA makes the SSI application process easier online with iClaim
Starting in December 2024, applicants for the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program will be able to access a new online service. This program provides monthly payments to low-income people who have a disability, are blind, or are age 65 or older.
The main initiative of the expansion of the iClaim service is to develop a completely online application process. This process will be implicit, meaning it will be clearer and easier for applicants to understand what information they must provide to the Social Security Administration (SSA).
To achieve this, the SSA will incorporate questions formulated in clear and accessible language, which have been previously evaluated by users. Additionally, pre-populated responses will be used, meaning the necessary information will be automatically populated or pre-provided to facilitate the process.
Make applying for SSI easier and more accessible
The purpose of these improvements to the SSI system is to reduce the time it takes for applicants to complete their application. Likewise, it is expected that this new system will allow applications to be processed more quickly, shortening waiting times.
This will allow SSI applicants to receive a decision from SSA more quickly. By avoiding unnecessary delays, beneficiaries could receive their monthly payments of up to $943 in a shorter period of time.
