We are about to start a new month and already the beneficiaries of the CalFresh program are waiting for a new round of payments. As you already know, in the state of California the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP benefits) is called CalFresh, but it is only a matter of nomenclature since the eligibility requirements and payment amounts are exactly the same as in the remaining 50 states of the nation.
In California, SNAP recipients are grouped into 10 groups that receive their payments throughout the first 10 days of the month. According to the latest issue of your application case for CalFresh, that will be the day it will be your turn.
The Payment Schedule Then for the Month of July Is as Follows
- Case # ends in 1: July 1st, 2024
- Case # ends in 2: July 2nd, 2024

The CalWORKs Schedule Is Quite Different
If you receive CalWORKs (cash assistance), that cash EBT deposit is made on your card during the first 3 calendar days of the month, so the payment format applies differently in your case. It is advisable to contact your local office of the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) to clear up all your doubts.
CalWORKS, which stands for “California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids,” is a public assistance program exclusive to the state of California that provides financial aid and services to families with children who have limited income and resources. This program is designed to help families achieve self-sufficiency by providing financial support and services necessary to find and maintain employment..

CalFresh Is Compatible With Supplemental Security Income (SSI) in California
Since June 2019, California has become the latest state in the United States to allow Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries to also apply for and qualify for CalFresh (SNAP benefits) benefits. This was a crucial change that positively impacted hundreds of thousands of beneficiaries and helped them to stay away from hunger and food insecurity, especially in populations of elderly and people with disabilities of low income who cannot develop in a lucrative activity, or whose retirements or pensions are not enough to cover their most basic needs.
Qualifying for and receiving CalFresh benefits does not affect other food or money benefits, so you can safely apply if you are in dire or urgent financial need.
California Cash Assistance Schedule for July 2024
For those people of the Cash Assistance program, which is separate from the CalFresh program, the payment schedule is different and is made throughout the first three days of each month, grouped as follows:
- Case # ends in 1, 2, and 3: July 1st, 2024
- Case # ends in 4, 5, 6, 7: July 2nd, 2024
- Case # ends in 8, 9, 0: July 3rd, 2024
What if I Don’t Receive My Benefits on Time?
If you did not receive your EBT benefits for the month, this could be due to several reasons. It could be that you have not recertified your eligibility, which is necessary to continue receiving benefits. It could also be that you did not submit the SAR-7 report on time, which is a periodic requirement. Another reason could be that you no longer meet the established eligibility requirements, or that you have not met the required work requirements.
Also, missing a scheduled appointment with the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) or not responding to a letter from the CDSS requesting information may be causes. Finally, having committed food stamp fraud will also result in the loss of benefits.
